How much does branding cost in Ireland?
If you've asked three people for a branding quote and received three very different prices, the first thing to check is what each person is actually quoting for. A logo, a visual identity and brand strategy solve different problems.
What you're buying: Logo design
What it answers: What mark represents the business?
Typical scope: A wordmark or symbol and the files needed to use it.
What you're buying: Visual identity
What it answers: How should the business look across its touchpoints?
Typical scope: Logo variations, colours, type, imagery direction, applications and usage guidance
What you're buying: Brand strategy
What it answers: What should this business be known for, by whom, and why should they choose it?
Typical Scope: Research and decisions about audience, positioning, offers, differentiation and messaging direction.
These can be bought separately or together. The right scope depends on the decision you're trying to make.
What does a logo cost?
In Ireland, a straightforward logo may cost around €250 - €500, while a professionally developed logo for an established business is often around €750 - €1,500. More involved logo systems cost more. The difference can reflect the brief, research, concepts, revisions, rights and final files included.
A logo may be exactly what you need if your positioning is clear and the rest of your visual identity works. But a new symbol cannot decide which clients you want, which offer should lead, or how to explain the value of your work.
What does brand design cost?
Brand design creates a visual system you can use consistently, from your website and proposals to presentations and social content. As an Irish market guide, freelance brand design is often €1,500–€5,000, while small studio projects can be €5,000–€15,000. These categories overlap: some quotes include positioning or launch materials and others cover the visuals alone. The number of applications, depth of creative work and scale of rollout all affect the fee.
Check what a quote includes. Will you receive logo variations, colour codes, font guidance, usable files and clear guidelines? Does it include templates, photography direction, website design or copy? Those items are often separate.
What does brand strategy cost?
Strategy is the work of deciding what the business should stand for and how it should compete. It can involve founder workshops, customer interviews, offer decisions, positioning, messaging and a practical plan for putting those decisions to work.
There is no useful single “Irish price” for strategy on its own. For context, one Irish studio publishes €6,000 for a defined project combining positioning, identity and launch applications; other Irish agencies describe strategy, identity and website projects in the €15,000 - €50,000 range. Those are combined scopes, not standalone strategy prices. A focused session, a positioning project and an in-depth strategy engagement are different pieces of work. Ask what decisions you will be able to make afterwards, what research is included and what you will receive. A strategy should be useful even before a designer opens a design file.
Which one do you need?
Choose a logo or visual refresh when you're confident about your direction and need a better way to express it visually.
Start with strategy when the business has evolved, your offers have multiplied, your best work isn't what you're known for, or your enquiries keep pulling you towards work you want to leave behind. In that situation, design needs a clear brief.
Combine strategy and design when the business is ready to change both its direction and the way it shows up. The strategy makes the choices; the identity makes them visible.
You may not need to replace everything. Sometimes the right work is to clarify the positioning, sharpen the message and keep the parts of your existing identity that still serve you.
A better question to ask before requesting a quote
“What problem am I trying to solve?”
If the answer is “my logo looks dated,” ask whether the business behind it is still well positioned. If the answer is “people don't understand why we're different,” a prettier logo is unlikely to settle it. If the answer is “I know where I'm going but my materials don't reflect it,” design may be the right next step.
My work begins with that diagnosis. I help experienced business owners decide what they want to build next, what they want to be known for, and how their brand should support it. Where design is needed, the strategy gives it a job to do.
