Creating Quizzes in Kajabi, for Your Students and Your Marketing

Update 26 August 2022

When I first wrote this article, Kajabi only offered one assessment or quiz tool, simply known as Assessment. Now they offer both quizzes and assessments. The difference between a Kajabi Quiz and an Assessment is that you create the Quiz attached to a product. In other words the quiz sits within your course content. The idea is that you use the quiz to test your audience’s knowledge of what they have learnt in the course. Follow this link to read more about creating a quiz within your Kajabi course.

The assessment tool is designed to be more of a marketing tool, which you add to your Kajabi website or landing pages to gauge the reader’s knowledge around a certain topic before they decide to buy your course. Follow this link to read more about adding an assessment to your Kajabi website.

When picking an LMS, the quiz or assessment tool can be a differentiator between the different platforms out there. You might be wondering if it’s that useful. Well, the Quiz or Assessment feature in Kajabi is a very useful way to measure your students’ success as they go through your content. It helps them to learn better and increases engagement between them and you. After all, who doesn’t like a short quiz!

Quizzes can also be used in Kajabi as part of your lead generation strategy, by adding them to your site pages or landing pages. More about that below.

Before adding an Assessment to a course or your website in Kajabi, you first have to create the Assessment. Then you add it wherever you want to use it (your course or a page).

Here is a quick guide to setting up an assessment in Kajabi:

Open the People tab on the Kajabi dashboard

  • Open the People tab from the Dashboard.

  • Select Assessments.

  • Click + New Assessment.

  • Complete the prompt to begin customising your Assessment.

Assessment details include:

  • Assessment Title.

  • Description.

  • You can enable or disable Automatically grade assessment.

  • You can configure the Results Breakdown Preference to choose to display or hide your user's Assessment results upon completion.

At this point you can start adding questions for the assessment.

  • Click the Add Question button in the assessment editor.

  • Kajabi currently allows you to add multiple choice and multiple selection questions.

  • Once you input the possible answers, pick the correct one(s).

Automations for Assessments

Automations can be used in Assessments after an Assessment is completed (the "When" trigger) for a variety of actions:

  • Grant an offer

  • Revoke an offer

  • Subscribe to an email sequence

  • Unsubscribe from an email sequence

  • Register to an event

  • Deregister from an event

  • Add a tag

  • Remove a tag

  • Send an email

  • Send a single-use coupon

Adding your assessment to your product post, when using it to assess student learning.

Open the Products tab from the Dashboard.

  • Select the Product you wish to edit

  • Click the Post you wish to add your Assessment to.

  • In the top card "Select what media you would like to attach to this post" select Assessment.

  • In the dropdown menu, select your Assessment. Students will be prompted to complete that assessment once they finish that lesson.

  • Click Save to keep your changes.

You can check on results by clicking the Results tab in the Assessment Editor.

From this tab, you can view individual student performances on different assessments.

You can also set up assessments to automatically notify you when a student completes an assessment.

To set up notification settings:

  • From the Dashboard, open the People tab.

  • Edit an existing Assessment.

  • Navigate to the After Submission section.

  • Check the box next to your desired notification setting.

Adding an Assessment to a Page in Kajabi - to increase engagement and build your subscriber list.

Assessments are not just for your course students. You can use an assessment as a quiz for your audience, as part of your lead generation plan or marketing funnel. Adding an Assessment to your page is a great way, therefore, to encourage your visitors to opt-in for a freebie or send them to a sales page.

Start by creating the Assessment in the People tab (see above), then you can add it to a page on your site or a landing page using the Assessment block. Your site visitors will be automatically prompted to subscribe to your email list when they go to take the test. Remember, you cannot edit the assessment within the assessment block. You need to do that in the People tab where you first create the assessment.

Adding an Assessment block to a page in Kajabi

  • Open the Website tab from the Dashboard.

  • Open the page editor for your Page.

  • Click the Section you want to edit or create new one where your assessment will sit

  • In the sidebar, click Add Content.

  • From the list, select Assessment.

  • Your newly created Assessment Block will generate at the bottom of the Section.

  • Select your Assessment in the dropdown located in the sidebar panel.

  • Click Save to keep your changes.

The notifications section of the Assessment set-up is where you define what happens once the person has completed the quiz on your page. For example, you could direct them to a bespoke landing page depending on their results of the quiz, with some custom, helpful information. Basically you are using the quiz format instead of a checklist or other lead magnet, to grow your subscriber list.

Alternatively, you can use the Assessment tool to create an online survey to gather feedback from your site visitors regarding the type of material they’d like to learn, and then use this information to create a new online course.
