How to reconnect your forms to your Google Drive in Squarespace

If your website is built on Squarespace and you're using its forms feature, you may need to reconnect them. Since 23rd September 2024 this is a necessary procedure.

This guide will walk you through the process in simple steps.

Due to recent updates from Google, any Squarespace forms or newsletter blocks that save data to Google Drive will need to be reconnected to ensure continued functionality.

1. Sign into Google Drive
Open Google Drive and sign in using your Gmail account. It's easiest to do this through Google Chrome. If you’re already logged into Chrome, go to "drive.google.com" and double-check you're using the correct Google account if you have more than one.

2. Locate Your Google Drive Settings
Once in Google Drive, go to the settings by selecting the gear icon in the upper-right corner. Choose ‘Settings’, then navigate to ‘Manage Apps’ on the left-hand side.

3. Disconnect Squarespace from Google Drive
Scroll down until you find Squarespace under the connected apps. Select the options next to the Squarespace icon and click ‘Disconnect from Drive’. This will disconnect all forms, newsletter blocks, and any other Squarespace features linked to this Google Drive account.

4. Reconnect Squarespace to Google Drive
Now, return to your Squarespace website. Go through each form block or newsletter block that was previously linked to Google Drive, and reconnect it manually.

5. How to Reconnect a Form or Newsletter Block
On a page where you have a form, click ‘Edit’ and select the form block you wish to reconnect. Click the pencil icon to edit the form, then select ‘Storage’ and ‘Additional Storage’. Choose ‘Connect’ next to Google Drive and follow the instructions in the pop-up window.

6. Follow Google’s Reconnection Prompts
Google will ask you to confirm which Google account you’d like to link. Grant the required permissions, then return to Squarespace to name your new Google Sheet, which will hold the form submissions. For instance, if it's a contact form on your homepage, you might name it “AWD Home Page Contact”. It's not possible to reconnect to an existing spreadsheet.

7. Repeat for Each Form or Block
Repeat these steps for each form or block you need to reconnect. Every time you reconnect, Squarespace will create a new Google Sheet in your Drive. If you’d like to merge this data, you can copy and paste it from one sheet to another, making sure to reset any sharing permissions as needed.

To reconnect a form in a promotional pop-up:

  1. Open the promotional pop-up panel in the Squarespace Marketing menu, then click Action.

  2. Click the Storage tab, then click Connect to other services to see Google Drive.

  3. Click Google Drive, click Disconnect, then click Disconnect again to confirm.

  4. Then, click Connect next to Google Drive, and follow the prompts to connect the form back to Google Drive.

  5. After reconnecting, type a name for the spreadsheet that will receive the form submissions, then click Save.
